Property Description

The villa is located in the quaint town of Malveira da Serra, Nestled in the foothills of Sintra mountain overlooking valley and ocean. There are scenic footpaths to private beaches in front of the house as well as on the mountain behind the house, the beaches are just a twenty minute walk. Five minute drive to Guincho beach with great surf and sun bathing.Ten minute drive to town of Cascais. Twenty five minute drive or train to Lisbon. Historic Sintra town is a 10 mn drive. Both the houses are peaceful and comfortable with beautiful views overlooking the garden, the green valley and the ocean.

The main house, Casa do Figueiral, is peaceful and comfortable with beautiful views overlooking the garden, the green valley and the ocean from almost every window. Sleeps 6 - 10 people. Accommodation comprises of One Double Bedroom, One Twin, an adjoined studio apartment with double bed plus additional double in loft sleeping area, (access via ladder). There is also a snug room off of the lounge with 2 single beds. There are two bathrooms, which have windows to the outside and a large spacious lounge and well-equipped kitchen. Includes cable TV and wireless Internet, a DVD player. There are three beautiful garden areas around the house, one being a grassy terrace with a covered eating area and BBQ. There is a cobblestone driveway with parking area in the lower level garden for 2 cars. Guests are provided with a welcome pack on arrival to include milk, bread, tea, coffee, wine and nibbles. We also provide t-towels and dish washing supplies...

Area Description

Our cosy village is located where the Sintra mountain touches the ocean. The closest beach is the beautiful Guincho. Scenic walks to other secluded beaches. This area has surfing, sailing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, golfing (Quinta da Marinha and Oitavos Golf courses), horseback riding, tennis, rock climbing, cultural touring, shopping, sun bathing. All within a 10 km radius. Cascais, nearby, has beaches, cafés, pubs and shops. There is a promenade along the water with beach coves and sunny cafés. Casa da Guia nearby, overlooks the ocean with restaurants and cafés set in the grounds of the old manor house with stylish shops and boutiques. Sintra also nearby is a dramatically beautiful mountain village with castles to explore like Quinta da Regaleira as well as cafés and shops. 5 mn drive North from the house on a beautiful coastal road is the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca the most western point of Europe, Praia Adraga, Azenhas do Mar, Praia Grande, Praia das Macas.

More detailed activities:: Surfing and swimming: there are various surfing and bodyboard schools oriented for teenagers and groups at Guincho and Praia Grande. At Praia Grande and Praia da Maças 12 km. There are two giant sea water pools with all facilities. Additional nearby sights: Monserrate palace. Built by an English trader it has a wonderful botanical garden. Capuchos convent, 500 years old and perched on a hill, with midget size dining room, sleeping rooms and chapel much of it sculpted from the rocks. Cabo da Roca, continental Europe's most western point with 200m cliffs. Azenhas do Mar, a wonderful village perched on the cliffs over the sea. Golf: with 10 mn drive you can find the following golf courses (distances and prices for 18 holes are approximate in 2008): Pestana Beloura Golf- ?70, Penha Longa Atlantico - ?100, Penha Longa Mosteiro - ?45 for 9 holes, Golfe do Estoril - ?75, Quinta da Marinha Oitavos Golfe - ?150, Quinta da Marinha Golf Resort- ?90

There are 2 free rental bike stands down in Cascais at the train station and at Casa da Guia. Just leave some identification and take them for the whole day. Ride along the ocean cliffs on the walk/bike path all the way to Guincho beach to the North or through Cascais town the opposite direction with beaches, shops and cafés. At Casa da Guia lighthouse on the yellow limestone cliffs below, there are various levels of rock climbing routes. If you like to ride horses, there are several in the area. The two closest are: Quinta da Marinha Riding Center, is set in the beautiful pine trees of Quinta da Marinha. And the Centro Hipico D. Carlos I which is set back in the fragrant dunes of Guincho. This also has a tennis club which several courts and a sunny restaurant with a deck overlooking the courts. It's all very scenic.
