Property Description

Aloni House which is truly individual takes its name from the circular stone threshing floor used in the past to separate the grain from the chaff (this can still be seen in the grounds of the property). You will realise that this house is something extra special the minute you walk through the door into the impressive double height entrance hall with its crystal chandelier.

This very large house, spread over 3 floors, is situated on the outskirts of the village of Kournas, approximately 15 minutes walk to the tavernas and shop in the village.

The house is built of stone with Cretan style arches to reflect the local character, exposed wooden beams to give a simple rustic feel and all modern amenities to provide the luxury you would expect in a house such as this.

The house has 5 bedrooms, all fitted with plenty of storage space and private facilities (two are not en-suite), it can only be rented by one party at a time but the flexible arrangements mean that you can rent it as a 3 bed house, a 4 bed house or a 5 bed house.

If renting as a 3 bed house you will have all of the bedrooms on the lower ground floor but neither of the master suites on the 1st floor. If renting as a 4 bed house you will have the aforementioned bedrooms + 1 of the master suites and if renting as a 5 bed house you will have all of the bedrooms available to you. If the master suites are not being rented, they will be locked throughout your stay.

Ground Floor ? double doors open up at the end of the entrance hall to an imposing open plan space wrapped around both sides of the property, this is the heart of the house, divided by two Cretan stone arches. To the left is the spacious, fully equipped kitchen/diner with a large farmhouse style dining table to seat up to 10 people in comfort. To the right is the well furnished lounge with a huge stone fireplace, comfortable sofas, antique furniture and many works of art adorning the walls. Two sets of French doors open out from the lounge and kitchen/diner onto a furnished, shaded verandah which runs the whole length of the house. This is a wonderful place to relax overlooking the pool with far reaching sea and countryside views. Off the entrance hall, near the top of the stairs to the lower ground floor, is a fully equipped bath/shower room which could be used as the private bath/shower room for one of the bedrooms on the lower ground floor without en-suite facilities.

Lower Ground Floor ? because of the design of the house on a sloping plot, this floor, which is on the lower ground at entrance level is at ground level at the rear of the property giving easy access to the pool, pool terraces and gardens. Three of the 5 bedrooms are situated on this floor. Two of them are twin rooms and the third is a double room. Two of them have direct access, through French doors, to the garden, pool and surrounding terraces. There is another well equipped kitchen on this floor and a utility room which houses two washing machines ? very useful if the house is being shared by two families who want some independence. One of the bedrooms has en-suite facilities with a large walk through shower. The remaining two bedrooms can either share the other fully equipped bath/shower room on this floor or it can be used exclusively by one of the bedrooms leaving the occupants of the 3rd bedroom to use the bath/shower facilities on the ground floor (see above).

First Floor ? whilst the ground and lower ground floors are covered in natural tiling, the first floor has polished wooden floors throughout. The two master suites and the library are on this floor. One of these suites has a double sleigh type bed and the other has two large double beds. Both suites have fully equipped en-suite bathrooms and walk in wardrobes. Both rooms have French doors opening up to another verandah running the whole length of the house, the views are the same as those from the ground floor verandah. The library is well stocked and there are two comfortable armchairs for those who may wish to sit and read in a quiet spot.

The house is cool and airy but nevertheless, all 5 bedrooms are air-conditioned and there are ceiling fans to keep you cool on the verandahs. An open fireplace in the lounge plus under floor heating and radiators throughout mean that Aloni House is comfortable for early or late in the season when evenings can be cool and some heating may be required.

Outside is no less impressive with a large pool with a child friendly shallow section, outdoor kitchen/dining area equipped with a large stone BBQ, preparation areas, outdoor sink, a fridge and a huge 4m long solid granite dining table, perfect for dining al fresco. The pool is surrounded by expansive sun terraces, all furnished with sun loungers and umbrellas. Walkways covered with pretty pergolas connect the BBQ area to the pool terraces. The garden has been planted with honeysuckle, jasmine and fruit trees to complement the surrounding olive groves and fields of wild herbs.

Aloni House is normally rented by the week, from Tuesday to Tuesday to fit in with the majority of flights from the UK to both Chania and Heraklion airports. Some flexibility in arrival/departure days is possible at this villa (depending on other bookings).

Prices quoted are for all 5 bedrooms.
Reductions for 4 bedrooms - £400 gbp per week.
Reductions for 3 bedrooms - £900 gbp per week.

NB - breakages deposit - we take credit or debit card details and retain them as the damage deposit until after your return from holiday. If there are charges to be recovered we will contact you before charging your card.

Area Description

The Apokoronas region to the east of Chania is where most of our holiday villas are situated, close to the sandy beaches at Almirida, Kalives and Georgioupolis. Apokoronas is one of the most picturesque areas of the province of Chania with many attractive villages. The main village of the region is Vamos where you will find full facilities including a 24 hour health centre.

Georgioupolis is a large resort well placed approx 35 kms east of Chania and 20 west of Rethymnon that is popular with holidaymakers from many countries; it is best suited to families and couples. There are plenty of bars to keep the younger ones entertained but no night clubs. The golden sandy beaches which spread 7 kms east of the village centre are well equipped with sun loungers, parasols, beach entertainment and tavernas; there is a smaller crescent shaped beach right in the village with sun loungers, parasols and a couple of beach bars. For those serious swimmers there is a large public swimming pool (open air) in the village. The lively square is lined with tavernas and bars, great for sitting and watching the world go by. With plenty of other tavernas to choose from, good shopping, particularly for jewellery, supermarkets, a chemist (and a doctors surgery), a bank and a weekly market, Georgioupolis has everything to offer the holidaymaker looking for plenty to do whilst not forsaking its Cretan charm.

Lake Kournas just 3 kms inland from Georgioupolis is a popular tourist destination as it is one of only a few freshwater lakes on the island.
