Property Description Bookmark and Share

Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Alpujarras are all within easy travel, with wonderful walking country.

The cottage is 3 floors high and built into the hill, so that the sitting room on the top floor is level with the upper road, and the ground floor store rooms are on the level of the lower road. The cottage is approached by the main street in the village, with the front door opening into the sitting room, and the two bedrooms and bathroom on lower levels, where it's cooler in summer. This main room is the width of the building, containing the dining area, sitting room and kitchen.
Moraleda is a hill top village approximately one mile from the A92 motorway, far enough away so that it cannot be seen or heard. We are centrally located between Antiquera, Montefrio, Granada and the south coast. Granada is about a 35 minute drive. There is a pharmacy, bank and several local shops, restaurants and bars, all within walking distance, and we often stroll to a local cafe for breakfast, where they do wonderful coffee.

Our home is a small 3 story cottage, although the approach road is on the level of the top floor, so that the cottage appears at first glance to be a bungalow. Entering the sitting room, the dining table and 4 chairs are to the left, with the kitchen at the far right hand end of the room.

From the sitting room, there are 2 flights of stairs, one down to the lower double bedroom, and the other down to the bathroom and the other double bedroom. There is also a short run of stairs up to the small roof terrace where there is room for up to 4 people to have breakfast or enjoy that evening glass of wine while watching the sun set behind the distant mountains. Spread before you are fields of olive and almond groves, with the mountains beyond.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including fridge/freezer, washing machine and gas cooker. There is a television with all the UK Freeview channels and with a DVD player, a small radio and CD player, with a good selection of CD's and DVD's available.

The Upper bedroom is almost en suite, the bathroom being just 2 paces from the bedroom door, with a basin, shower, WC, power point and an electric heater.

Area Description

Within reach for a day's visit are many towns and villages including Cordoba, Antiquera, Montefrio, Alhama de Granada, Granada and the coast.

Granada is a small but lovely city, and above it are the Alhambra and the Albaicin. Contact us if you wish to book tickets to the Alhambra from the UK.

The Albaicin is the old Moorish quarter and worth a day's stay, strolling around the narrow streets and stopping for teas, coffee or lunch at the many restaurants and bars.

Cordoba is another day's trip, and the Grand Mosque an essential destination. If you wish to eat in interesting places closer to home, try the small restuarant opposite the old mosque in Montefrio, or one of the cafes in the main square in Alhama.

Good food can also be found at the Cortijo Tajar by the motorway exit to Heutor Tajar, and more simple fare in Moraleda at the Bar Mallorca, the Mari Jose and the Hostal opposite. There are several other coffee bars offering snacks.

The villages of the Alpujarras offer good walking in the Sierra Nevadas south of Granada, the main town being Orgiva, which is about one and a half hours drive from our home - and a lovely journey.

If you want further ideas, we can provide itinerary suggestions - please email us with your needs.
