Property Description

Las Tortugas is an exceptionally spacious and well equipped villa situated in a tranquil rural location just ten minutes from the beaches of Vera Playa, Mojácar and Garrucha in Eastern Andalucia, Spain.

It enjoys stunning all-round views, notably of the Sierra Cabrera mountains to the south, has a great pool with plenty of covered and uncovered terracing to while away the day: everything you need for a proper chill-out holiday but not too far from the convenience of shops, restaurants and beaches. On top of that it enjoys total privacy with only 2 neighbours visible, more than 200 metres away.

The prestigious and increasingly popular Valle del Este Golf resort with its challenging course is just a two minute drive away.

What better way to finish off a hard day's sunbathing than to relax on the underwater bench at the end of the pool with a glass of bubbly as you watch one of our spectacular sunsets, interrupted only by the sizzling of the barbecue and the song of the cicadas?

Las Tortugas was recently completely refurbished to offer flexible accommodation for up to 8 adults/children plus two extra children up to the ages of 12 on z-beds, either in self-contained apartments (out of high season only) or as an entire house. A further 2 infants up to two can be accommodated in travel cots.

The house is exceptionally well equipped for a holiday let, particularly for cooking and dining (often commented on by our guests). But the attention to detail and comfort does not stop in the kitchen: the sheets are all 100% cotton - essential for a comfortable night in high season, the bath towels large and fluffy. We supply hairdryers and beach towels to save luggage weight, a comprehensive welcome pack with everything you need for a snack or breakfast on the first morning, and if you need us to shop for other things in advance we are happy to do so.

The two spacious sitting rooms, two kitchens and separate dining room mean that even three generations sharing the house can find some private space to ensure a bit of peace and quiet.

There are all-round views - the main, southern aspect, is towards the old whitewashed town of Mojácar, perched on the end of the spectacular Sierra Cabrera mountains. To the east you can glimpse the sea at Garrucha, while to the west and north there is nothing but open country.

There is covered parking for two cars and plenty more open parking area within the 2500m2 walled and gated plot, and beyond the terraces the garden is mainly graveled and planted with mature trees and shrubs.

Well behaved dogs are welcome (with prior written consent) and will revel in the freedom to run around in complete safety in the open countryside around the house. All we ask is that they bring their own beds, do not go on beds and sofas or in the pool.

Area Description

Almería is the eastern-most province in the region of Andalusia and it has remained largely unspoiled. Even in the main coastal resort of Mojácar, sensible planning regulations have ensured there is no high rise to spoil its charm. It is therefore quite unlike anything you might expect from the more popular and well known Costas of Spain.
From Las Tortugas a ten minute drive takes you to the beaches of Garrucha, Mojacar and Vera Playa. Mojácar is the vibrant resort area, famous for its many ?chiringuitos? ? the traditional beach bars which serve marvelous fish and paellas and where you can hire sun loungers and shades and while away the entire day between the bar and the sea. There is night life here, but it is mainly focused on the bars and restaurants, with few night clubs, so it is a bit more restrained than some traditional Spanish resorts. It has been a favourite for many years with Spanish holidaymakers for many years but northern Europeans have only discovered it in recent times.

In complete contrast, Garrucha is a working town. It has a small fishing fleet and a marina. It also has a long sandy beach with chiringuitos right on the sand.

This beach more or less runs into that of Vera Playa, the ?new town? of the coastal strip, which includes a popular naturist beach.

To the south you reach the famous Natural Park of Cabo de Gata with its wonderful unspoiled beaches (Playa de los Muertos is said to be one of the ten best in the Mediterranean) and its protected coastline which is home to important marine life and considered a divers' paradise.

Inland an hour or so is the Tabernas Desert, famous for being the location for several Spaghetti Westerns, and home to the Mini Hollywood theme park. The Alhambra at Granada is a couple of hours away if you are in search of culture, and the historic city of Carthagena is a similar distance to the north.
