Area Description

Locally the medieval towns of Orbec , Broglie & Bernay offer the visitor the opportunity to sample local Normandy architecture and rural scenery. There is a choice of restaurants, some offer regional menus at reasonable prices while others offer broader gourmet menus. Alternatively, local produce is available at markets and you can prepare your own meal at your rural retreat.
Outdoor pursuits include a local cycling circuit , golf, fishing and horse riding.
Bernay is the nearest rail station with a direct link to Paris in 1 hour 20 minutes

Within 1 hours drive:

* Honfleur a medieval port, known for its art galleries, fish restaurants, port cafes & museums.
* Lisieux basilica. On 7th July 2011 Lisieux is the finish of stage 6 of the Tour de France.

Within 1 1/2 hours drive:

* Pegasus Bridge an ideal starting point to visit the many museums, historic sites and war cemeteries associated with the D Day landings. From here it is possible to follow a coastal route to visit the other landing sites.
* Monet,s Garden, famous for its lily pond that inspired much of the impressionist's work.
* Rouen the cathedral town historically linked to Joan of Arc.

Within 2 Hours drive:

* Bayeaux a medieval town where the tapestry is displayed.
* Le Mans where you can visit the motor racing circuit and museum. Stage 7 of the 2011 Tour de France starts
here on 8th July
* Falaise castle birthplace of William the Conqueror.

One hour inland from the English Channel, the climate is similar to that of the UK. Rolling countryside, woodlands and farmlands, best describe the local landscape.
Historically Normandy is closely linked to England. William the Conqueror was born in Falaise where you can visit his castle. Caen is famous for its stone, from which the Tower of London was built.


The Broglie area
Cheese museums. The Cider Route . Throughout the summer many villages and towns have their own fetes, celebrating all their local produce. The paye d'auge is famous for cider, calvados and cheese production. Local cheeses include Liverot, Camembert, and Pont Eveque.

9 hole golf course in Bernay, 18 hole courses at Le Neubourg, Pont Eveque and Deauville.


The gite is 2 kilometres (1 mile) from junction 15 on the A28 autoroute. From the cross channel ports of Boulogne, Calaise & Dunkirk it is signposted as the E402, directing you from the port to junction 15.

*We are one & a half hours drive from the cross channel ports of Ouistreham ( Caen) and Le Havre, two hours from Dieppe three hours from Boulougne, Calais & Dunkirk.

*Ryanair fly from Stanstead to Tours airport where car hire is available, travelling time by road is three hours via the A28 to junction 15.

*Gare St Lazarre Paris is one hour twenty minutes by train to the nearby town of Bernay where Europecar vehicle hire is available, there is a cab rank at the station. A pick up from the station can be arranged.
