Property Description

The very large and well appointed bathroom features a luxurious bathtub, generously proportioned washbasin and a bidet. There are also two large mirrors, a hair dryer and a heater booster. Toilets can be found on the ground and first floors.

There is a big and well equipped kitchen . Features include a el-powered oven, halogen plate, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, blender, toaster, electric mixer and coffee stamp, plus a full range of tableware and kitchenware. There is, of course, also a microwave oven available for less culinary creative guests!

To help make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible the large communal living room, with adjoining dining room, acts as a focal point and heart of the house. Perhaps you will discuss current and previous travel adventures or the rights and wrongs of the world over dinner? Sooth yourself in the relaxing massage chair or you could just snuggle up with a good book on the cosy beanbag. There is WIFI (wireless internet) access whilst the wide-screen satellite television will enable you to keep up with current events with BBC World, and many other news channels from across world, or entertained by the many European stations available.

The large attractive garden, with lawn and flowerbeds, also offers barbeque facilities, a spacious terrace and magnificent south-facing and hence sun-filled views of the beautiful Pyrénées. Set within in a quiet neighbourhood, in the heart of Guchen village, it is well away from the main road and hustle-and-bustle of the outside world. All this is directly accessible from the lounge and dining room.

The Local Area

The Villa Champenoise can be found in the village of Guchen in France?s Haute-Pyrénées province. Located in the Vallée d?Aure the village lies midway between the towns of Arreau (5km north) and Saint-Lary-Soulan (5km south).
Essentials

For self-caterers daily shopping is easy with supermarkets located in nearby Ancizan (2km), Arreau (5km) and Saint-Lary-Soulan (5km). Local markets can be found in nearby Vielle-Aure (Tuesday morning, 5km), Arreau (Thursday morning, 5km) and Saint-Lary-Soulan (Saturday morning, 5km).

Tourist attractions

Local attractions include the whole of the Pyrénéan mountain range including the cable-car accessed observatory on top of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre (44km). The Pyrénées Occidentals National Park - which features some great walking and skiing opportunities - Néouvielle Nature Reserve (29km), and Bielsa Tunnel (25km) leading to Spain are all within easy range.

There are many caves to visit including I?Aspugue Caves at Labastida (20km), and mines in nearby Vielle-Aure (5km). Arreau (5km) is a medieval town that has kept the hardiness of a mountain village. Mauvezin (35km) offers visitors the I?Escaladieu Abbey. All of the villages in the Vallée d?Aure are worth a diversion and, further afield, the towns of Tarbes (70km), Lourdes (60km), Bagneres-de-Luchon (40km) and Pau (110km) are all well worth a visit.

Skiing and Sports, Health and Leisure

Local skiing resorts include Pla d'Adet (1700m altitude) and Espiaupe (2200m altitude) accessed from Saint-Lary-Soulan (5km). Also Piau-Engaly (25km) and Peyragudes (30km) in the Louron Valley.

Other sporting activities include white-water rafting, paragliding, mountain biking and biking, tennis, golf (Lannemezan), fishing, equestrian and hiking.

Pamper yourself with hydrotherapy in the spa town of Saint-Lary-Soulan (5km) or other nearby destinations such as Capvern, Luchon or Génos-Loudenvielle.

Local Life

Enjoy meeting with pastoral life by visiting local farms. Discover the region?s wines, cheese specialities and charcuterie. Experience the local cuisine and learn about the ancient recipes.
