The 'Cité de Carcassone' with its old fairytale medieval centre is one of the main attractions in the whole of France and a must-see for any visitor to the region. The newer town with its criss-cross shopping streets and central square is itself worth a visit, and for the serious shopper there are the large stores and hypermarkets on the outskirts. The markets in the region are colourful, interesting, and a real social occasion. There's lots of fresh, seasonal produce to enjoy eating on your terrace!
