The cottage is situated in a quiet lane with no through traffic, ideal for children. It has a small secluded garden to the rear, which is a real suntrap, courtyard to the front and a large private garden just across the lane, bordering the forest.

Area Description

The cottage is only 5 minutes drive from Dinan, one of the finest of all Brittany's cities which has lost none of its medieval charm. Its numerous half timbered houses, romanesque and gothic churches, picturesque squares and streets take visitors back in time to days long gone. From the top of the 14th century castle you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside. It offers a vast variety of restaurants, boutiques and craft shops where various craftsmen can be seen practising their traditional skills. There are museums, gardens and a weekly market.

Dinan celebrates its medieval history with the Fete des Remparts every two years, the next in July 2012. Medieval jousting, banquets, fairs and firework displays take place and the streets are crammed with stalls displaying medieval skills and entertainers in medieval costume.

The Port of Dinan offers pleasant walks along the towpath, boat trips and canoeing on the River Rance, or you can just relax in one of the numerous riverside cafes or restaurants.

The village of St Helen is approx half a mile from the cottage, has a shop for daily provisions, a friendly bar with pool table, tennis court, boules pitch and fishing lake which holds regular competions. Several large supermarkets can be found within 5 mins drive.

Beautiful uncrowded sandy beaches can be found along the nearby River Rance and the Emerald Coast. Excellent golf courses are within easy reach as well as go karting, horseriding, fishing and watersports and many activities for children.
