Property Description
Casa Astrid, located on the beach in Cabuya, a quaint village nestled between Montezuma & Mal Pais at the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, is within easy walking distance of 5 restaurants, 1 Internet cafe & 2 grocery stores. The house has an easy flow from indoors to outdoors. The open air cathedral ceilings allow for wonderful light & ventilation. The french and double french doors at the back of the house open up completely so that you can enjoy the sounds & sights of the ocean from within the house. The spacious covered deck is ideal for dining or relaxing in one of the various hammocks, or lounge chairs. You'll see Monkeys, birds & butterflies in the shaded garden. Two bedrms, one with a double bunk bed, & a built in couch provide sleeping space for up to 6 guests. The house is within a 10 minute walk of jungle/river/waterfall hikes, snorkeling & Cabuya Island. The ocean at the house is safe for kids as there are no currents. Montezuma is a 7km/1 h walk along the beach.
Local Activities
THINGS TO DO: TAKE A HIKE: At low tide, take a 5 minute walk to the Magical Cabuya Island. Explore the island beaches, views and cemetery. Walk 2km to the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve and take a two hour hike through the jungle to a pristine beach. Walk 10 minutes up the beach to the River Lajas and hike up the river to one of several waterfalls. Walk for an hour (7km) along the beach to Montezuma and enjoy a drink at one of the many funky restaurants. Take a two hour hike via the high road over the Cabo Blanco reserve enjoying the amazing views and take a dip at the beach of Mal Pais or Playa Carmen.
THINGS TO DO: TAKE A SWIM: Swim in the lovely warm safe water right in front of the house at high tide. There are no currents or big waves to worry about. Make sure to bring water shoes as the bottom is rocky. At low tide wade in the tide pools. Find an amazing assortment of shells, stones and sea creatures. Bring your snorkel gear and flippers out to Cabuya Island to see coral and tropical marine life. Swim in the cool pools at the mouth of the river Lajas, only a ten minute walk along the beach. Rent kayaks form the Howler Monkey Hotel, two doors down and kayak around Cabuya Island. Do you have kids? For $100/week we can set up our above ground pool for you. Relax and watch the kids have fun.
THINGS TO DO: TAKE IT EASY: Swing in a hammock and let the wildlife come to you. Monkeys, birds, iguanas, butterflies and geckos are regular visitors in the back yard. Take your book and beach chair to the shady water's edge and enjoy the sound of the waves and the tropical breeze. Build a sand castle and go beach combing with the kids. The beach changes regularly with the tide. You will be amazed at the treasures that you will find. Take a stroll past the second supermarket and follow the signs to the Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary where Mary will introduce you to all the fascinating local wildlife. Watch the moon rise over the ocean and see the splendid night sky unfold before your eyes right in front of the house.
