Property Description
5 star Self-catering cottage Yorkshire near water
White painted (apart from the kitchen) this combined barn and cottage conversion is light, airy and spacious - definitely NOT 'twee or kitsch'. Furnished mainly with antiques and original oil paintings, it is both stylish and, with its underfloor heated stone floor and massive beams, typical of old Yorkshire.
A spiral staircase from the hall brings you into the elegant drawing room (that is open to the rafters). The master bedroom boasts a magnificent carved mahogony 18th century 4 poster bed. In addition there is a twin bedroom on the first floor with its own bathroom. The first floor drawing room celebrates an enormous 'Queen' roof truss. Another feature of this room is a massive 2m x 1.2m yorkshire flag on which a wood burning stove has been placed.
Quality is not confined to this 5 star graded building. This cottage is also in a very special setting and has access to an award-winning shared garden..
Living Area
It sleeps up to 6 people and has been recently restored.
It has 3 bedrooms, a spacious living room, dining/hall, and kitchen area. There is broadband access for your own laptop and satellite TV. Its antique furniture includes a Georgian mahogany 4 poster bed with a hand carved ceiling. Enjoy an open fire in the lovely spacious beamed first floor sitting room (one basket of free logs).
Kitchen Facilities
The spacious farmhouse kitchen has a seating area as well as a large circular mulberry wood table. It is fully equipped (as to be expected from a 5 star graded cottage).
Outside
The small valley, Merrydale, in which Tyas Cottage is located, has been designated as a Site of Scientific Interest. A short, steep and rough walk along an ancient packhorse route through woodland brings you to the 'Rose and Crown' pub, just over the brow of a small hill. You'll need hiking boots. If pampering is on the agenda and you can tear yourselves away from the shared garden, Titanic Spa is very nearby.
Suitability
Particularly suitable for families with children. Although ground floor is level access, and there is an alternative staircase to the spiral staircase, we are located in a very hilly area, so not ideal for those with mobility problems. Gate for spiral staircase to make it safe for young children.
Local Activities
Both rural and urban. We are within 25 miles of Leeds, Bradford, Manchester & Sheffield, yet very secluded, rural and quiet.
Other Information
The sculptural pods next to the mill pond are very popular, as are the chickens and the swing that goes over the waterfall.
Visitors Reviews
We cannot say enough about this cottage and its surroundings. It is absolutely beautiful! The owners have put so much love and detail into this cottage it is awesome! We would return in a heartbeat. We stayed for four nights and it was like being in a different world. If you are looking for an enchanting place you will not be disappointed here. We are really impressed that the owners are willing to share this lovely home with the public.
