Property Description

A splendid early 20th century condominium, or rather a small elegant house, with an independent entrance through a gated private pedestrian street lined with gardens. It is situated in Mexico City's first building to house apartments, the historical Edificio del Buen Tono

(also known as La Mascota), built over a hundread years ago.

The ideal place for an unforgettable visit to Mexico, either on holiday or for a longer period. It is an oasis in the middle of a very busy city. A place where you can relax, enjoy it and rest; and at the same time it will offer you all the amenities and interest of one of the biggest cities in the world.

Living Area

The flat preserves most of the original century-old features, with its high, ornate ceilings, cast iron railings, tiles, granite and wooden floors, and wooden doors, windows, shutters and balconies. The two bedrooms provide the perfect accommodation for a party of two to three adults, or for two couples. The main bedroom has an elegant suite with a comfortable queen size bed, and an additional built-in clothes cupboard. The other bedroom has a beautiful antique double bed which featured in the Mexican film La Mujer del Pueblo (2001), based on my father’s novel Otilia Rauda (translated as Otilia’s Body in English). Comfortable folding mattresses can be placed in the living room for two more guests if you are planning on sharing costs with several friends. In between both bedrooms you will find the bathroom with its original furniture, including a very spacious bath tub, standing on its four legs,shaped like lion’s paws - to provide you with the excellent antidote to the long tiring hours of tourism. The beautiful dining room at one end of the house, with its unusual arrow-inspired shape offers a soothing view to Gardenia, our private street with its fountain, flowers and trees, amongst which the Jacaranda trees are particularly striking in Spring when covered in bloom. The long polished wooden table and chairs seat eight guests with ease and plenty of space. The front room (living room), with its library, is an inviting area for reading or playing board games, for relaxing or chatting and taking evening coffee or drinks. You will also find the charming patio surrounded by plants the place to sip cocktails in the early afternoon, or have your morning tea, while you read the papers. Then, downstairs, there are the rustically-furnished cellars where you can enjoy a bit of cool in the hot spring and summer.

Kitchen Facilities

The superb traditional kitchen. It is spacious, with a very big gas cooker and generous working areas, perfectly equipped with anything you might need to produce a memorable dinner with fresh exotic ingredients bought in the local market around the corner. And for a more practical dinner, you can use the microwave oven, the small conventional electric oven, and keep your food in the double- door ice making fridge freezer.

Outside

a place that is ideally located close to the heart of the City, within walking distance of the Historic Centre, next to the famous Zona Rosa neighbourhood, and just south of the most beautiful avenue in the City, the Paseo de la Reforma. It is an ideal place for culture (the National Library, main Craft market, and Palace of Fine Arts are all nearby) and night life (with cafes, restaurants, discos and the gay quarter over in the Zona Rosa).

Suitability

Excellent for 1 to 3, and up to 4 (if they are 2 couples, or do not mind sharing each bed between 2). In short: 1 or 2 (if they are a couple) - Spectacular 2 to 3 (if 2 are a couple) - Excellent 2 to 4 (if 2 couples) - Very Good 3 to 6 friends - Good, at a great price though! However, it will always be: Exceptional!
