Property Description
The apartment is set in the beautiful 4* ‘Patara Prince Resort' positioned at roof top level to take in the stunning views of the turquoise sea and the surrounding pine clad mountains. The sunsets are simply stunning as the sun falls behind the mountain in front of you, perfect with a glass of wine or two on the balcony amongst the pink Bougainvillea!
The apartment is nestled into the ‘Patara Prince Resort' a 60 acre secluded site with 200 metres of private coastline and direct access into the clear blue sea from beach platforms. The development is an oasis of calm and tranquillity, the private cobbled streets wind their way from the top of the development to the turquoise sea at the bottom The apartment is located a short walk from the private shoreline, bathing platforms and restaurants through beautifully kept landscaped gardens cut into the hillside. For those who do not want to walk the short walk to the sea or perhaps more likely back up! there is a free shuttle service that runs regularly throughout the resort. There is also a boat service that takes you in the day directly into Kalkan harbour across the bay for a small fee.
The apartment has access to 4 beautiful shared swimming pools, 3 outdoor, 1 indoor, including one for children and one for over 16's only. There are numerous beach platforms which are very private with access into the sea. On site you have access to tennis courts, volleyball, snooker, watersports e.g. diving and table tennis. In addition to this there is a health club which includes the indoor pool, sauna, hairdressers and Turkish massage. There are also 3 restaurants and a patisserie which will include something for all tastes and guests will also have the benefit of a significant 25% discount on all food and drink upon booking. The old village of Kalkan can be reached by a twenty minute stroll or a five minute car journey. There is also a dolmus (bus) that runs from outside Patara prince to the village, or the shuttle boat service is available in the day from the sea front.
Although car hire is not required for the apartment as facilities are within walking distance, there is car parking available should you want to hire a car.
Local Activities
Nestled at the bottom of the Taurus mountains pretty Kalkan bursting with traditional Turkish charm descends to the sea in a maze of quaint narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses with trailing bougainvillea to the picturesque harbour.
Only a twenty minute pleasant walk from the apartment Kalkan has a number of excellent reasonably priced roof top restaurants with unrivalled friendly service and wonderful views over the bay. The combination of small boutiques, intimate bars and lovely restaurants make Kalkan a truly beautiful place to be and a setting for a very memorable holiday. If you don't want to leave the romantic setting of Patara Prince you have a choice of restaurants that also offer very high standards of food, excellent service and reasonable prices.
If you can tear yourself away from the beach platforms at Patara Prince with direct access into the clear turquoise sea, Kalkan has its own pretty pebble beach down by the harbour and there are other superb beaches near by. You can also take a ‘Gullet' trip on a traditional Turkish boat from the harbour. This is a wonderful day when staff cater for your every need and you can spend the hours snorkelling in the clear waters around the local bays, lunch and afternoon tea are also provided to make this a very relaxing experience.
In addition to this Kalkan also holds a market every Thursday when all the locals from the surrounding areas come to sell their produce from fruit and veg to Turkish carpets. This is an experience not to be missed!
The spectacular Saklikent Gorge is cut into the Akdaglar Mountains . The gorge is 18km long and so steep and narrow that the sun doesn't penetrate, so the water is icy cold even in summer. You approach the gorge along a wooden boardwalk above the river that opens out into a series of wooden platforms suspended above the water where you can buy and eat trout. From there you can wade across the river, hanging onto a rope and then continue well into the gorge, sometimes walking in mud sometimes water (Lonely Planet, 2005) A fun day out amongst wonderful scenery.
About 7km east of Kalkan, Kaputus is a striking mountain gorge crossed by a small highway bridge. Below the bridge is a perfect little sandy cove and beach (Lonely Planet, 2005). Kaputus is a lovely sandy swimming cove and the sea is a brilliant turquoise blue, truly spectacular. A dolmus from kalkan runs here in the summer.
Perhaps combine a trip to Kaputus beach with lunch in the atmospheric seaside town of Kas (a beautiful journey down the coastal road) where the locals gather in the shady tea gardens to discuss life and the fisherman bring in their daily catch.
Islamar is a traditional Turkish sleepy small hamlet set in the Taurus mountains above Kalkan. The hamlet has spectacular views and a few wonderful restaurants. Islamar specialises in trout farms hence why the food is so good and it is a memory to treasure spending a relaxing afternoon in a vine covered restaurant sipping a glass of wine with views to die for! Islamar is about ten minutes by car above Kalkan.
Kekova is the area of and around the ancient Lycian sunken city of Simena (partially submerged in water seen by boat) by several earthquakes in the 2nd century A.D. A charming mix of ancient, medieval and modern history makes the Kekova area interesting as well as beautiful. Kekova is an enjoyable place to visit for its beauty alone. It is a peaceful place of history, gorgeous turquoise water, sun, islands, unspoilt nature, blue skies and lots of wonderful(!!) swimming. A great day out on a boat!
