Property Description

On the top floor of this villa in the seaside village of Amaliapolis you will find two spacious 42m2 apartments. Each apartment has an air-conditioned twin bedroom, a large living room with cooking facilities in one corner and bathroom. The living room has a sofabed for 2 people and is cooled by a ceiling fan. All around are balconies with sun or shade and wonderful views of the Greek olive groves and the sea (the Pagasitic Gulf) in the distance. The shady garden which is shared with other tenants of the house, is enclosed and has a barbecue area plus children's swings and a slide.

Amaliapolis is just south of Volos and can be reached from either Athens or Thessaloniki airports. There are also seasonal flights to nearby (23km) Volos airport with Ryanair, Air Berlin and Monarch. Whilst a hire car in recommended, we can arrange for a taxi to meet you at Volos airport or if your flight is to Athens or Thessaloniki you can use the long distance buses to the area - a really Greek experience! Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring mainland Greece.

Area Description

In the centre of Amaliapolis village you will find a choice of cafes/bars and tavernas, with excellent fish, three of which stay open all year, all within walking distance of the villa. The village also has two bakeries and two general stores. The beach is also within walking distance of the apartments and is sandy and gently sloping - making it very suitable for young children. There is also a children?s playground, 5-a-side football pitch and volleyball court next to the beach. In high season there are 2 beach bars. In summer Amaliapolis is popular with holidaying Greek families who enjoy this unspoilt area of mainland Greece. You can experience the 'real' Greece here largely untouched by mass market tourism.

As well as the sandy village beach there are several good beaches within a 30 minute drive dotted around the west side of the Pagasitic Gulf. There are also delightful Greek mountain villages to explore with extensive forested areas for walking. You can also take a boat trip to the island of Skiathos with its famous sandy beaches. The area of Magnesia is rich in archaeological sites including Ancient Thebes, Prehistoric Dimini, Sesklo and Dimitras. Volos (50km away) is a bustling small city with a wide range of shops, restaurants and ferry links to the nearby islands of Skiathos, Alonissos and Skopelos (where Mama Mia was filmed). The Pelion Peninsula is within driving distance with beautiful scenery - a good day trip. In winter there is even a ski resort on the peninsula! Explore the seaside villages or drive up into the mountains for breathtaking views.

If you want to venture further afield both classical Delphi (approx 120km) and the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora (approx 180km) make fascinating excursions as does the lesser known but stunning archaeological site of Dion (approx 170km). It is also possible to visit Vegina and Pella near Thessaloniiki for those who are keen on archaeology.
