Luxembourg which is officially called the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a small country that is bordered by France, Germany and Belgium. It covers just about 1, 000 square miles and is considered one of the smallest countries in Europe

Luxembourg has just under a half a million residents or Luxembourgers and they speak any of three different languages: Luxembourgish, French and German. The currency used in Luxembourg is the Euro but they also accept major credit cards and there are ATM machines available everywhere.

Visitors may want to take in the sights by checking out some of the historical landmarks that this city has to offer. The Wenzel Walk lets you travel back through 1, 000 years in just under two hours. As you tour the oldest areas of Luxembourg you will see the Bock Promontory, the Church of St. Ulric and the Castle Bridge.

Aviation fans will enjoy a trip to the National Museum of Military History located in Diekirch. It has a collection of military memorabilia including information about the Battle of the Bulge that occurred there.

Another major attraction is The General Patton Memorial Museum which is in Ettelbruck. The museum focuses on the German invasion in 1940 and has more than 1, 000 photos and documents on display.

Even though it is one of the smallest countries, Luxembourg is host to more Michelin 14-star rated restaurants for its size than any other place in the world. German and French specialties abound including wild boar, fried river fish and pike in Riesling sauce. The locals enjoy the usual sausage and sauerkraut followed by a hometown beer.

One site that is definitely worth seeing is the Villeroy & Boch store. This famous company has been putting out only the finest porcelain, crystal and tableware for over 250 years.

And if you still want to shop around there are plenty of boutiques and souvenir shops to rummage through in the Old City. You can find everything from fine art to designer clothing.

If you are going to be in town for up to three days you may want to take advantage of the Luxembourg Card which will give you access to transportation throughout the city as well as discounts on many of the museums and exhibits.
