Rome is the largest city in Italy and has a population of around two and half million. The history of Rome dates as far back as two and half million years. Rome headed the Roman Empire during the first century BC till around the fourth century AD. The Vatican City is an independent state and is rules by the Catholic Church. The character of Rome is typical renaissance and baroque. Rome's historic centre was also declared as a World heritage site.
The public transport system is fabulous you can get any and every where you need to be. If you purchase a U-Rail ticket; your transport costs will be halved. You can have a reasonable priced summer holiday and have all the luxury that goes with this trip.
Places of interest especially the ancient sites in Rome are of course the majestic Colosseum which used to house around eighty thousand spectators. You can experience Gladiators (guides) and take a photo with one. Then the Vatican City; housing the Pope as well as Sistine chapel, museums, St. Peter's Basilica being the largest religious built structure in the world and is bordered with palaces and spectacular gardens.
A large archaeological site which is situated in Rome's centre you will find an array of wonderful shops and houses. You can get around very comfortably on the short rail. You won't have to walk for hour on end.
Accommodation is plentiful; but you still have to book early to ensure you have a space. There are hotels, cabins, Bed and Breakfasts, flats, villas, sea side cottages that you can choose from in Rome Italy. Most accommodation is relatively well priced; but will depend on where you chose to stay and what commodities you require.
There are a few things however that you should be alerted about - ladies take care of your handbag at all times, never carry large sums of cash on your person, don't get involved with funny looking characters. Stay away from the gypsies; they are rather devious characters. Don't walk unaccompanied in the evening. Be careful when travelling on the trains as there are many pick pockets. Don't let this put you off in any way - just be aware!
The capital of Italy is very cultured in the arts and theatre. Restaurants are a dime a dozen, and you can get a fantastic plate of pasta for a couple of Euros or go to an elite restaurant and dine in elegance which will cost you a few hundred Euro's. Sea food dishes are highly recommended. All round Italy is an exhilarating wonderful experience.
